Rust
by Patrick Harley Simmons

When the water looks clean
And the tide's between high and low
I will paddle free out into the rising sun
And even though I believe
It'll outlive all of us
It seems the spoon that feeds everything
Is beginning to rust
Beginning to rust
The reefs of the sea
Are beginning to rust
And the waves that they breathe
May just cease to be
Cease to be
So I'm listening close
To my early morning host
So clear like tears rolling down my nose
Do you really wanna pull into a barrel of crude oil?
Do you really wanna take a chance?
Just think about your last dance
On a teal peeling A-Frame
Cause they're beginning to rust
The reefs of the sea
Are beginning to rust
And the waves that they breathe
May just cease to be
Cease to be
Paddle in with this joy
Start the day
Catch it on my way
Taking home what I'm shown in this tone
I hope you'll receive
Beginning to rust
The reefs of the sea
Are beginning to rust
And the waves that they breathe
May just cease to be
Cease to be
We really hope you'll receive
